What's missing?

Hi!

Feelings are everywhere, aren't they? Our feelings can change in a second, althrough we would like to be happy all time, with a smile to all our students. But sometimes it is hard.

Well, it doesn't matter if you are an adult or a child, we've got feelings. Adults can be sad, angry or scared. Children have these feelings too.

That's why today's proposal is about this topic. I prepared a Power Point to talk and play with feelings. From my point of view, before doing this activity, children should feel familiar with the feelings vocabulary.

The first screen is only an excuse to talk about how we feel in different situations. After, several photos are shown. Leave them some time to look at them. Next, they can guess with photo/photos have been erased. It is important that they have worked with some descriptions. It will be easier for them to explain what is missing (for example, I think the girl with long black hair is missing).

You can adapt the activity to your students abilities. For example:

1st of Primary School: The teacher can say, when you have a present, how do you feel? And, when you see a spider?

5th of Primary School: Can you complete the sentences? I'm sad when... (a child can say I'm sad when I fall down).

Give more time to see the photos to the first years of Primary School.

I hope you like this activity! Click on the photo to get the Power Point:

Because I'm happy...

Good morning! Let's start with some happy messages in a song. Click on the photos to listen to the song:

Can your students circle the correct answer? Some of them are easy but there are others they need to concentrate =)

Happy by Pharrel Williams!

It might seem crazy/silly/cracker what I'm about to say
Sunshine she's here, you can take a break
I'm a hall/high/hot air balloon that could go to space
With the air, like I don't care babies/baby/bald by the way.

Because I'm happy
Sing/Can/Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy
Sing/Can/Clap along if you feel like happen/happiness/hands is the truth
Because I'm happy
Sing/Can/Clap  along if you know what  happen/happiness/hands is to you/youth/us
Because I'm happy
Sing/Can/Clap along if you feel like that's what/when/why you wanna do

Here come old/bad/break news talking this and that, yeah,
Well, give me all you got, and don't hold it back, yeah,
Well, I should probably want/warn/will you I'll be just fine, yeah,
No offense to you, don't waste your time
Here's why

Because I'm happy
Clap/sing/can along...

 (Happy)
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
My level's too high/hard/low
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
I said (let me tell you now)
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
My level's too high/hard/low
Bring me down
Can't nothing
Bring me down
I said

Because I'm happy
Clap/sing/can along...

 (Happy) [repeats]
Bring me down... can't nothing...
Bring me down... my level's too...
Bring me down... can't nothing...
Bring me down, I said (let me tell you now)

Because I'm happy
Clap/sing/can along... (x2)

Idioms' quiz

Hi everybody! How is the black Friday going on?

As children are a part of the society, we could talk with them about the black Friday. I think about introducing the topic like I propose in the last post: using idioms.

That’s why I’ve created a hot potatoes quiz. It can be used in several ways. For example, we can make the quiz once a week, adding one more idiom each time. It could be a fast and effective way to learn while having fun and start the class with a motivating activity. You can also encourage children to explain the reasons they have chosen an option.

Funny expressions =)

Do you find difficult to motivate students? Are you looking for ideas? If the answer is yes, continue reading...

... Not all children have the same motivations. Each kid, as each adult, is different. Although this, there are some tips that often work. My proposal is to start or finish lessons with an active activity.

I propose you to explain curious sentences in English to your pupils or let them discover them.

For instance, one day it's raining hardly. An original way to start class is to ask children if they know another way of saying the same sentence. In case they don't know, you can make groups of two and give this encrypted sentence to them. I think they will be surprised when they discover the sentence.

Have you guessed it?

Some humour!

The best way to start an english lesson is by laughing a little bit, isn't it? Today I've found a simple and funny video in te BBC News for kids. Let's have a look at it:

My proposal is to watch the video with the whole class and after discuss some topics around it depending on the pupil's level. At the Word document you can find some ideas to work with the video:
